JOIN BENDIX IN SUPPORT OF THE COMMERCIAL MOTOR
VEHICLE ADVANCED SAFETY TECHNOLOGY TAX ACT OF 2007
Reducing accidents. Preventing injuries. Minimizing property damage. Saving lives. Every day, that’s what commercial vehicle safety technologies accomplish on our nation’s highways.
That’s why Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC supports recently introduced legislation that encourages the implementation of safety technologies in commercial vehicle applications. If passed, the Commercial Motor Vehicle Advanced Safety Technology Act of 2007 (H.R. 3820) would provide an income tax credit to facilitate the development and deployment of advanced safety systems for commercial motor vehicles.
According to the bill, “Congress finds that it is in the interest of the United States to increase the deployment of advanced vehicle safety technologies on commercial motor vehicles in the domestic market by providing businesses with tax incentives designed to make such systems more affordable for purchase.”
The legislation would do just that by providing a credit equal to 50 percent of the cost of any qualified commercial vehicle safety system that is placed into service during the tax year. The bill cites brake stroke monitoring systems, lane departure warning systems, collision warning systems, and vehicle stability systems as technologies that have the potential to “significantly enhance the safety or security of the driver, vehicle, passengers, or load of a qualified commercial vehicle.”
Bendix believes H.R. 3820 is a strong and necessary step in helping make vehicle safety technologies even more affordable for today’s safety-conscious fleets. As the cost of operating a fleet continues to rise, Bendix supports incentives that help remove barriers to the adoption of these vital safety technologies.
