IRIS (International Railway Industry Standard) is a globally recognized standard unique to the railway sector for the evaluation of business management systems. IRIS is headed by the Association of European Railway Industries (UNIFE). In involving all stakeholders, IRIS gives the opportunity to improve the quality of railway products along the entire supply chain. IRIS takes the ISO 9001 standard and complements it by including railway-specific requirements, particularly with regard to project, design and change management. Objectivity and transparency are guaranteed by only using approved and independent certification bodies for any audits.

Knorr-Bremse was involved from the very beginning in the deployment of this standard and is still contributing actively in the further development. Meanwhile there are about 30 locations of Knorr-Bremse group certified according to IRIS. Like this Knorr-Bremse is taking a lead among the suppliers of the rail industry.
